"Elephant Hotel on Review"
Commemorative Posters are now for sale to benefit the Society. Posters are $15
and available at: the Museum Shop, Somers Tax Office, Mexican Shack, Heritage
Hills Activity Center and Somers Custom Framing. Framed versions are available
in Somers at Somers Custom Framing where a Spring Framing Special is being
offered. Framed versions are also available in Bedford Hills at Wild Birds
Unlimited and The Paint Box. Westchester Arts Council featured the Society in
its Affiliate Spotlight column in May in its monthly publication Artnews. The
publication is distributed countywide through the Westchester County Business
Journal. On a more local note, the Society is being honored, along with Mickey
Oliver, as the co-recipient of Somers Democratic Club's Community Appreciation
Award at the Club's 19th Annual Awards Dinner on June 13. Thank you to all the
docents who participated in the Somers Historic Home Tour and Wright-Reis
Homestead 3rd Grade Visit. Also a very special thanks to the Beshar and LaVoie
families for their hospitality. Congratulations to Matthew Kolar, Somers High
School Junior, and James Gherardi, Somers High School Senior, recipients of the
Society's Otto E. Koegler and Carrie Brown Rorer Memorial Awards, respectively!
For the past year, the young men have been working on their Eagle Scout
designation and, in so doing, elected to work on local history projects. Matthew is
organizing, cleaning and documenting artifacts and equipment in one of the
barns at the Wright-Reis Homestead. James is researching, writing, editing and
producing a booklet about local history geared specifically to young children. He
is overseeing an editorial staff consisting of Middle School students. See our
newly designed website, courtesy of Trustee Pat Humphreys, at
