| About the Society |
| The Somers Historical Society was founded in 1956 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006. The Society
Collects, maintains and exhibits material related to both local history and to the development of early 19th century American circus, under the guidance of a full-time curator. Operates and maintains a Museum on the third floor of the Elephant Hotel, a National Historic Landmark. The Museum exhibits items from its world- class collection of circus ephemera, as well as local historical artifacts, on a rotating basis. Research Room and Library, featuring local history and circus- related books. (Available for use by appointment. ) Museum Shop, featuring Somers-related merchandise and folk art items crated by local artisans is also located there. Interprets three town-owned historic properties – the Wright Reis Homestead Mt. Zion Church Tomahawk Chapel Presents a series of educational programs each year.
